Abigail Ellis
Abby was born on 4/1/2018 at 41 weeks. Abby was diagnosed at birth with a condition called Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy or HIE for short. HIE is a type of brain damage that occurs when an infant's brain doesn't receive enough oxygen and blood.
Abigail's heart rate dropped during the pushing stage of birth, and we had to do an emergency C-section. Abby had to be resuscitated immediately after she was born due to the umbilical cord being wrapped around her neck. Luckily, she started breathing on her own about an hour later. The team at Einstein had Abby transported to the CHOP NICU to undergo a cooling procedure to prevent future brain damage. Abby had to undergo several tests and scans before she was allowed to come home.
Flash forward 5 years and Abby is a CHOP neurology graduate!! She has met all of her milestones and her MRI is clear of any damage or trauma from birth.
We feel so blessed and Abby truly is our miracle baby!
